An original SketchTraub, Gustav (Lahr, Black Forest, 1885 – Munich before 1958). Carousel Figures (and medley colorful fair scene). Black pen with grey wash over pencil heightened with white. Between 1928/29 + 1944. Inscribed with black ink: Traub / Karusselfiguren. 358 x 287 mm.
Vollmer IV, 465. – Fascinating sktech on thin cardboard for the periodical “Fliegende Blätter” (Flying Leaves) with redaction stamp and reg.-no. 3215 on verso. – Inside the washed upper part danseuse, cupid, and player before organ-pipes under a curtain decorated with garlands and roses. In the lower part fair fun before houses at the moment of the attraction of a tight-rope walker. The middle field intended for the text subdivided in line blocks. – In the white lower margin print-mark by hand. After his study at the Kunstgewerbeschule Karlsruhe Traub worked as landscapist + graphic artist (a fullness of imaginative commercial art) in Munich. Professorship since 1939.
