Oudry, Jean Baptiste (Paris 1686 – Beauvais 1755). A hound pointing pheasants. The cock already flying away while the hen still runs. Etching with aquatint by Johann Heinrich Tischbein II (Haina 1742 – Cassel 1808). 20.2 x 27.4 cm.

Oudry worked the theme as well in oil (Brukenthal Museum in Hermannstadt/Transylvani) as per etching (Nagler 5; with verse subtext, but without signature).

Plate 39 of the Tischbein suite of the “Fair Game” of 1827 – Lindner 11.2083.01 erroneously with Joh. Hch. T. I as creator; Schwerdt III, 173 – , a collection of old to earlier impressions formerly mounted in spots (therefore the four corners a bit thin), here from the collection of the legendary railroad king Dr. Strousberg, Berlin. – In the medium part of the sky light age stains marring a little only.
