
Gélibert, Jules (Bagnères-de-Bigorre/Hautes-Pyrénées 1834 – Capbreton/Landes 1916). „Bull terrier“. Achieved by cross-breeding in the Manche, very small and strong race for cave hunting. Thieme-Becker XIII, 365; AKL LI, 198 f.: “(Gélibert produces) almost exclusively realistic animal and hunting depictions which concentrate on the chief subject”. – Pupil of his father, the animal painter Paul G., whose field he favoured together with his brother Gaston and continued including hunting. Showed at the Paris Salon since 1859, then in Brussels + Berlin, too.
