Quail – Caille, La. The fowl in fine large profile before a wheat field with mill and decayed walls in the background. Fine, too, the treatment of the clouds. Engraving by Claude Baron (Paris 1738 – after 1770) after Jacques de Sève (fl. about 1742-1788), both Paris. (1771.) Inscribed: De Seve del. / Baron sculp, otherwise as above. 8⅜ × 6½ in (21.3 × 16.6 cm). – Baron, pupil of Le Bas, engraved about 250 ll. for Buffon’s Histoire naturelle.
