Carl Friedrich Deiker, Par Force Hunt

Deiker, Carl Friedrich (Wetzlar 1836 – Dusseldorf 1892). Par Force Hunt. Stag of odd 16 points in shrubby terrain amidst the pack. Laterally left the horsemen approaching. Wood engraving by Richard Henkel. 9⅛ × 13⅜ in (23.1 × 34 cm).

Supposedly Boetticher 5 as published in the “Illustrierte Zeitung” in 1872. Here in separate impression from 1873 on stronger paper with blank back. An earlier “Par Force Hunt” (B. 3) figured in an exhibition in Dusseldorf of 1868 and was purchased by the Grand Duke of Oldenburg. – Example for Deiker’s capacity to adopt Snyders’ “dramatic power of the composition” (Thieme-Becker).
