Wood engraving by the Compton pupil (Karl) Alfred Niedermann (landscapist, woodcutter + author, 1843 Zurich – 1926) after a watercolor by Ludwig Passini (Vienna 1832 – Venice 1903) at A. Closs in Stuttgart. (1876.) Inscribed: Ludwig Passini Rom 1868 / A Closs X(ylographical) I(nstitute) Niedermann (sc), otherwise as before. 13.2 x 8.2 cm. Comp. Boetticher 14 as then (1890/1900) in the possession of the Joh. Meyer Collection in Dresden. Concentrated on the Italian, namely Venetian genre Passini's watercolors form "a long line of works awaited always eagerly" (Boett.). BACK: Trasteverinerin. Half-length portrait from back to left with bare shoulder part. Wood engraving after Ferdinand Keller (Karlsruhe 1842 – Baden-Baden 1922). 11.7 x 9 cm. – Continuous local text on both sides.
