Anthonis van Dyck, Danae and the Golden Rain

Dyck, Anthonis van (Antwerp 1599 – London 1641). (Danae and the Golden Rain.) On the low bed with pillows and blankets the young woman in the nude, reaching out for the rain of golden ducats pouring down over the bed’s head. Doing the same, but with more greed the maid standing behind the bed while a putto kneeling on the bed’s lower end looks at one of the coins. Steel engraving by D. J. Pound (England about 1859/60). 3rd quarter of the 19th century. Inscribed: Dresdener Galerie. / A. van Dyck pinxt. / D. J. Pound sc., otherwise as above. 5⅞ × 7 in (14.8 × 17.8 cm).
