A. Stockman(n) del. and Ioh: Georg Hertel, excud. A.V./Aug.V. resp. as well as the (publishing )No. 40. Subject sizes c. 2¾ × 3⅜ in (7 × 8.5 cm), plate sizes c. 6⅞ × 9 ½ in (17.5 × 24 cm), sheet sizes c. 9 × 15 in (23 × 38 cm).
The charming set in strong, wide-margined impressions on buff paper. – On two sheet faint large tidemark below/laterally right perceptible without any impairing of the image. – Tiny hole in the white plate part of sheet 2.
Stockmann, painter, draughtsman and engraver in Augsburg, where he married about 1720, is recorded by Nagler as Johann Adolph as then also Thieme-Becker refer to a sketch at Basle signed “J. Adolf [!] Stokhman”. Worked especially for the Augsburg publisher Johann Georg Hertel I (1760 still alive) or II.
