Harold John Stanley, Knodler's First Studies

Stanley, Harold John (Lincoln 1817 – Munich 1867). (Knodler’s First Studies.) The studious little Knodler kneeling at a footstool used as desk and writing what the elder girl at the door dictates. On the left another child. Steel engraving by Albert Henry Payne (London 1812 – Leipsic 1902). C. 1850. 7⅛ × 4½ in (18.2 × 11.3 cm).

Lovely sujet, to be attributed to Stanley’s Tyrolese folk scenes. – Stanley began with his studies at the London Academy, but is known especially as pupil of Kaulbach in Munich though.
