Correggio (= Antonio Allegri, c. 1489 Correggio 1534). Magdalen. Young woman lying in an open landscape and reading in a book. Steel engraving by Albert Henry Payne (London 1812 – Leipsic 1902). 3rd quarter of the 19th century. Inscribed: Correggio pinxt. / A. H. Payne sc., otherwise as above. 14 x 17 cm.
Correggio “was most tempted by those things that should reflect the charm of a beautiful sensuous appearance, an idyllic atmosphere”. Such a work is his “Magdalen”.
