Inscribed and dated in the stone ([19]12?), additionally in the white lower margin in pencil “Nr. 40 (?) / 50 / PietvanWyngaerdt (ligated) / Sneland in ...park”. 10½ × 12½ in (26.6 × 31.9 cm).

Impression on slightly toned light carton. – In the white margin traces of folds of former framing running around, right below the pencil signature box pleat. – Very fine work of great density and vibrant chiaroscuro.

“ (Wyngaerdt) received his training at the Rijks-Academie in Amsterdam (by) C. L. Dake, N. van der Waay and Aug. Allebé. Works from his hand are in the Stedelijk Museum at Amsterdam and Utrecht, Gemeente Museum at The Hague, and the Frans Hals Museum at Haarlem … He paints very broad and is an excellent colorist. Especially dark, heavy colors. ‘His art is not a harmony of similarities, but of contrasts’, K(aspar) Niehaus ”
