Ridinger, Johann Elias (Ulm 1698 – Augsburg 1767). Otter Hounds, and Water Hound. Four of them before mountainous waterfall. Etching & engraving. (1738.) Inscribed: J. E. R. fec. / N. 17., otherwise in German as above. 7¼ × 6 in (18.4 × 15.2 cm).

Thienemann + Schwarz 407. – Sheet 17 of the instructive set Design of Several Animals in its first edition with its strong laid paper. Appropriately very fine impression of deep chiaroscuro. – “These plates are much wanted and frequently copied” (Th. 1856). – Margins above & below 5.3-7.8 cm, laterally 2-2.5 cm wide. – On the left verso 1 cm narrow fold strip from previous stitching. – At the upper edge still both the two original fine pricks.
