Instructive  Representation  of  Partridge  Catching

Ridinger, Johann Elias (Ulm 1698 – Augsburg 1767). How the Partridges are catched with the Net. Two hunters draw the large sized net over the flock of partridges the pointer stands at while a third one takes off his jacket to through it over the bag that none escapes. On the bar behind a predatory bird. Etching + engraving by Martin Elias Ridinger (1730 Augsburg 1780). (1750.) Inscribed: Joh. El. Ridinger inv. et del. / Mart. El. Ridinger sculps. Aug. Vind., otherwise in German as before. 24.8 x 36.6 cm.

Not in Helbing who could neither offer the complete set nor among several single sheets Th. 97. – Sheet 29 of the “Ways to catch the Wild Animals”, regarded by Halle in Munich in 1928 as the “Rarest of all hunting sets by Ridinger” (LXVIII/323). – WANGEN(?) watermark. – Instructive 6-line subtext. – One of the eight sheets worked by the 20-years-old Martin Elias for this set. – With surrounding papermargin of 1-2 mm around the 7 mm wide platemargin and thus still acceptable. At the back traces of previous mounting in spots. Otherwise as contrast-rich as warmtoned impression.
