Pratolino, Colossal Statue of Apennin in the Park of. The gigantic sitting figure of the Appenine Colossus worked by Giambologna 1579/80, looking at the lake at its feet. On its bank two herons. Wood engraving by the Compton pupil (Karl) Alfred Niedermann (landscapist, woodcutter + author, 1843 Zurich 1926) after Gustav Bauernfeind (Sulz on the Neckar 1848 – Jerusalem 1904) for Adolf Closs, Stuttgart. (1876.) Inscribed: within the subject A Closs X A Niedermann sc / GBauernfeind, otherwise typographically in German as above. 21.7 x 15.3 cm. – Continuous local text on both sides.
