Naples – Dill, Ludwig (Gernsbach, Baden, 1848 – Karlsruhe 1940). View at Naples from the Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Splendid vista across the tower-rich city and the inner Gulf at the fuming Vesuvius. In front on the steps a couple, the lady with fan. Toned wood engraving by Adolf Closs (1840 Stuttgart 1894). (1876.) Inscribed in the stock: A. Closs (with a swing with unidentified continuation) / Dill Napoli (18)75, otherwise typographically in German as above. 19.7 x 24.8 cm.

From a series worked in Closs’ xylographic institute, here as one of the rarer sheets engraved by Closs – “then one of the best of his profession in Germany”, Thieme-Becker – himself.
