Cologne – Lasinsky, Johann Adolf (Simmern 1808 – Dusseldorf 1871). (View of Cologne.) Central view with Deutz, seen from the loop above of Rodenkirchen. Here instructive-busy activities at the quay, especially at and in the boats and sailing ships quite in front, but also strolling about and the idle guard as horses in the horse-pond. In the middle distance one of the steamers sailing the river since 1813 only. Farer back the pontoon bridge. Toned pen lithograph. Inscribed: (Recorded from nature and lithographed by J. A. Lasinsky 1828. / Frankfort a/M. C. Jügel.), title as above in German-French parallel text. 22.9 x 29.2 cm. – Clemen 242. In its nervous line conduct ahead of its time , unmistakably, and promptly lithographed after own sketch, and thus “standing out highly advantageously from the leaves of much smaller size engraved after him by other artists … Lasinsky’s ‘sensibility, keenest power of observation, realistic study of nature, and talent for large wide landscapes’ have been praised” (Schulte). – View from a rarer place .
