Johann Elias Ridinger, Spaniel and Small Pointers

Ridinger, Johann Elias (Ulm 1698 – Augsburg 1767). Spaniel and Small Pointers. Five of them before overgrown picket fence, sitting and resting. Etching & engraving. (1738.) Inscribed: J. E. R. fec. / N. 1.4. , otherwise in German as above. 7¼ × 5⅞ in (18.5 × 15 cm).

Thienemann + Schwarz 404. – Sheet 14 of the instructive set Design of Several Animals in its first edition with its strong laid paper. – “These plates are much wanted and frequently copied” (Th. 1856). – Margins above & below 5.7-7.4 cm, laterally 2.2-2.4 cm wide. – On the left verso 1 cm narrow fold strip from previous stitching. – At the upper edge still both the two original fine pricks. – “A pretty group”, so Thienemann, which is, however, slightly insufficiently blackened.
