Ridinger, Johann Elias (Ulm 1698 – Augsburg 1767). A Lurking Tiger. “A panther half risen and crooked” (Th.) before a boulder. Colored etching with engraving. (1738.) Inscribed: J. E. R. fec. / N. 32., otherwise in German as above. 7¼ × 5⅝ in (18.3 × 14.4 cm).

Thienemann & Schwarz 422. – Plate 32 (in later edition 50) of the instructive set Design of Several Animals ( “These plates are much wanted and frequently copied”, Th. 1856). – Impression of the 1st edition on fine laid paper. – Colored by later hand in attractive fitting palette as quite unusual for original impressions.
