Ridinger, Johann Elias (Ulm 1698 – Augsburg 1767). A Tiger sallying out for Prey. “This now only is the real tiger (Felis tigris. Linn.). Leaping out of its den with the jaws wide open” (Th.). Colored etching with engraving. (1738.) Inscribed: J. E. R. fec. / N. 35., otherwise in German as above. 7¼ × 5¾ in (18.4 × 14.6 cm).

Thienemann & Schwarz 425. – Plate 35 (in later edition 53) of the instructive set Design of Several Animals ( “These plates are much wanted and frequently copied”, Th. 1856). – Impression of the 1st edition on fine laid paper. – Colored by later hand in attractive fitting palette as quite unusual for original impressions.
