Ridinger, Johann Elias (Ulm 1698 – Augsburg 1767). (The Bear frightened.) Before his den confronted with a snake dating its tongue. Etching with engraving. (1738.) Inscribed in the plate: J. E. R. fec. / N. 42., otherwise in German as before. 7⅜ × 5¾ in (18.6 × 14.6 cm).

Thienemann + Schwarz 432. – Plate 42 (in later edition 71) of the instructive set Design of Several Animals ( “These plates are much wanted and frequently copied”, Th. 1856). – Should have served Joseph Georg Wintter as inspiration for his Coarse Boar before Hissing Snake of c. 1784. – Wide-margined impression of the 1st edition.
